Maple Valley was officially incorporated in 1997. The Maple Valley Historical Society has the best record of Maple Valley's past and artifacts (including Hobart, Taylor, and Maple Valley). Maple Valley's name was originally Vine Maple Valley. The name was pulled from a hat, but the Post Office removed the "Vine" because it was too long. The city's school district is called Tahoma (Coming from Taylor Creek, Hobart and Maple Valley). The original Tahoma High School was built in 1926.
